Biography

Dr. G. Appasami is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS Engineering), Chennai, India. He completed his Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Computer Science and Engineering from Pondicherry University, Puducherry, India, and subsequently earned his Ph.D. in Deep Learning from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India, where he also served as a Senior Researcher. Earlier, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Central University of Tamil Nadu.

With over 17 years of academic, teaching, and research experience, Dr. Appasami specializes in artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), computer vision, medical image analysis, image processing, federated learning, and cybersecurity. His current research focuses on developing intelligent, explainable, and secure AI models for healthcare applications, particularly for disease diagnosis and classification using medical imaging.

Dr. Appasami has published numerous research articles in leading international journals, including The European Physical Journal Special Topics, The Journal of Supercomputing, Discover Computing (Springer Nature), and the African Journal of Biomedical Research. His research has contributed to AI-based medical image analysis, COVID-19 diagnosis, pneumonia detection, and MRI brain tumor classification. He has also authored books and book chapters in the areas of graph theory, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and intelligent healthcare systems.

He has received several NPTEL Gold Certifications, Research Excellence Awards, and the prestigious MHRD Doctoral Fellowship during his doctoral research.
